Jefferson residents are reminded to help out other agencies and organizations so they can provide better service during the aftermath of the weekend’s snowstorm.

Postmaster Peg Erickson is asking the public to clear their walkways and make a path to their mailboxes so carriers can easily deliver mail on time and as efficient as possible.

City officials want to remind residents to clear off a space in driveways or by the curbside so that garbage can be properly picked up.  If garbage is left on or behind a windrow, it will not be picked up.  Residents who have dumpsters must make sure to clear around it for sanitation crews to pick it up.

Finally, the City’s snow ordinance is in effect when there is at least ½-inch of accumulated snow.  During the snow ordinance, residents must remove their vehicles from the streets from 6pm-6am and from 2am-6am for the downtown area to avoid a citation and possible fines.

Police officers issued 17 citations over the weekend for failure to obey the snow ordinance.
