Up until recently, Guthrie and Dallas Counties were affiliated in the same Habitat for Humanity organization. That relationship ended after nine houses were built in Dallas County, all in in Perry, and no projects were completed in Guthrie County. Guthrie County has now joined Boone and Greene Counties in forming the Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity. Jeff Lamoureux is Habitat’s Associate Director for Guthrie County and says Guthrie County will have a more active role in planning projects this time around. “Each county will have their separate board made up of committee members. There will be a Boone board, a Greene board and a Guthrie Board. The people of Guthrie County will have a presence and a say in what’s happening in their county, a little more than what was done before.”

For those seeking more information about Habitat for Humanity in Guthrie County, there are three informational meetings coming up next week; 7 pm next Tuesday the 17th at Stuart’s First Congregational Church, Thursday the 19th at 5 pm inside of Guthrie Center’s First Christian Church, and Thursday the 19th at 7 pm inside of Panora’s Faith Bible Church. All three meetings are open to the public.
