In a continuing effort to keep Greene County High School a “safe place” from bullying, parents are asked to participate in a survey.

GCHS Safe Schools Grant Coordinator Emily Gannon says the survey is part of their sustainability plan for their Safe School Certification from the Iowa Department of Education.  She points out that the surveys help to collect feedback and data to use for future plans of how to improve their program against bullying.

There are different surveys for parents, students and staff to take.  The survey questions are about student safety, student-to-student relationships, adult-to-student relationships and other environmental targeted questions.  The goals for survey completion are 95% for students and staff and 40% for parents.  Gannon notes that reaching parents can be difficult but there are a variety of ways that they can participate, including taking the survey during next month’s parent-teacher conferences.

Other efforts the high school is taking as part of its anti-bullying plan are continuing training methods for staff; including input from several groups such as parents, students, community members, staff and administration in decision making processes; and providing information to parents about preventing or coping with bullying incidents.
