During the Guthrie County Mother’s Day Weekend tornado of 2014, the Sheriff’s Office’s communication tower east of Guthrie Center was temporarily without power. This meant that during a crisis situation, law enforcement agencies were unable to communicate with each other over their handheld radios. As a way to prevent that problem, the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a $24,375 grant for a communications tower back-up generator. Sheriff Marty Arganbright says the generator will likely be installed sometime this summer, giving them peace of mind for at least some of this year’s storm season.
