The ADM boys basketball team recently wrapped up a disappointing season on Monday with a district playoff loss to Denison-Schleswig. Unfortunately, it only adds to a recent downward trend.
Since going 21-4 and making it to the state tournament during the 2011-12 season, the Tigers have compiled a 12-54 record, as the Tigers finished 3-19 for the second time in three years.
ADM struggled on both ends of the floor this season, ranking among the bottom five teams in points allowed per game while shooting just 38.4 percent from the field. Head Coach Aaron Mager said offensive struggles fed into defensive struggles and vice versa, hurting his team’s confidence.
He was also the first to admit his confidence level as a coach isn’t quite where it was during more successful seasons, and in order to return to relevance, it will take a comprehensive examination of the program by his entire coaching staff.
“I have to reevaluate where we are as a program with how we’re developing kids,” Mager said. “How’s our offseason look? Are we prepared when we come in? Have we developed them in the offseason? Because you’re not going to win games if you only work November to March. Everybody does that – you’re going to have to gain ground in the offseason. So how do I sell that to the guys; how do they receive it?
“There’s a lot of things to look at. We’ve talked about as a staff of how, ‘How do we get back to where we were?’ None of us are happy about where we’re at, so kind of back to the drawing board a little bit on that, kind of reevaluate.”
