Nodaway Valley topped Paton-Churdan 66-48 in Panora on Thursday night to win the Class 1A District 13 boys’ basketball title. The Wolverines play on Saturday night in Atlantic vs. Fremont Mills in a Substate 7 contest at 7 p.m. with the winner advancing to the State Tournament. The Wolverines improved to 18-6 while the Rockets fell to 20-4. NV led 23-15 after one quarter, 39-21 at the half, and 57-36 at the end of the third quarter.
Jackson Lamb had 30 points and Nathan Andrews 13 for NV while Jake Carey had 16, Noah Juergensen 15, and Colton Fitzpatrick 10 for the Rockets. Juergensen joined Carey in the 1,000 career points club. The junior post entered the contest with 997 career points and now has 1,012.
The Paton-Churdan school will be honoring its boys’ basketball team at a ceremony this morning at 9:45 a.m. at the gym in Churdan and the public is welcome.
