Perry area residents who are looking for a creative outlet are encouraged to join in on a community art project Saturday.

The “Portraits of Perry” project is a collaborative effort between the City of Perry, Iowa State University and local artists.

City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says Jennifer Drinkwater from ISU will be leading the efforts and residents of all artistic abilities are welcome.

“You don’t have to believe that you’re an artist, you’re just going to become one if you want to come and take part in this.  I think Jennifer (Drinkwater) has some art students from the high school involved, about 20 or 24 of them, so it’s going to be fun.”

The highlight of the project will be seeing it all come to fruition in May, when the City’s steamroller runs over the carvings and prints the artwork onto canvas.

Saturday’s event starts at 10am at La Poste.
