The ADM girls basketball team saw four seniors play their final games in the season-ending playoff loss to Harlan on January 21, but the good news is that head coach Corey Schneider should have no problem replacing their offensive production.
The Tigers, who finished 10-13 overall and 6-8 in Raccoon River Conference play, will return their top three scorers from this season: junior Brianna Mueller (10.0 points per game), sophomore Sydney Bertman (9.8) and junior Molly Jacobsen (9.3).
ADM was an up and down team offensively during the season, averaging 48 points per game on 38 percent shooting and 27 percent 3-point shooting. All three of those marks ranked the Tigers in the middle of the pack in Class 4A, usually slightly closer to the bottom than to the top.
But with the right offseason approach by the trio of returning scorers and help from some fresh faces, Schneider said a significant jump in offensive production next season is possible.
“I think offensively there’s pieces there can definitely help us and if they continue to make strides offensively, I think we can be a team that is a good offensive team,” Schneider said. “And we do have some young girls – our lower levels had very successful years, both at the JV and at the freshmen level. I think the freshmen lost two games all year and the JV was above .500, so we’ve got some girls that can definitely help us out. And depending on how much time and effort they’re willing to put it in the offseason, hopefully we can make strides that way. But it’s nice to have a nucleus of three strong scorers coming back.”
