Five Perry High School students will be heading to Nevada this weekend for the Southwest Iowa Individual State Speech Contest.
Seventeen Perry entries received I ratings at the district contest recently and of those, a handful have been selected to move on in the competition.
Gabi Huntington will compete in two categories Saturday after receiving high marks in both Solo Musical Theater and Storytelling. Bayley McInerney will be joining her on the trip and competing in the Spontaneous Speaking category, along with Maggie Lamphier Meir in Public Address, Sarah Sweet in Storytelling and Sierra Coleman in Acting.
Other Perry students who received I ratings at the district contest are Christian Loaiza in Solo Musical Theater and Acting, Lauren Benjamin in Radio News and Poetry, Kat Leesley in Acting, Ana Rosa Funez in Literary Program, Abbi Weir in Poetry and Alicia Calderon in Poetry. Meir and Sweet also received I ratings for their Prose entries.
