The recent beautiful weather has allowed the ADM girls track and field team to run outside sooner than expected, and head coach Bart Mueller took full advantage at Wednesday’s practice.

The Tigers partook in time trials, which Mueller he normally has to wait to do until after spring break. He was concerned the weather might turn south in a couple of weeks, so he felt like his team had to utilize the good weather.

Mueller said he had every girl run a timed 100 meter dash because it’s the hardest event to time splits for, even at meets.

“The 100’s are really difficult, so it was nice to just run them all in the hundred. I think the girls were excited,” Mueller said. “Some of them wanted to rerun them – they didn’t feel quite ready – but they’re all in the same boat, they’re just starting. It’s just a starting point, I told them, we’ll be looking at things later in the year, it doesn’t set the season. But it’s just fun to get out there and workout. We did some hand offs, we did some hurdling.

“They can get their sweats off and do it with out the extra weight and do full speed types of workouts. So we’re really taking advantage of this weather and enjoying it. The girls have good enthusiasm right now.”

The Tigers open the season during spring break on Monday at Iowa State University.
