A lot of things can change an athlete’s outlook on a particular season, especially injuries. ADM senior Jenny Wicks knows a little something about that.

The tri-sport athlete is immersed in the girls track and field season, which is now over a month old. A captain on the girls cross country squad and a letter-winner for Corey Schneider’s girls basketball team, Wicks’ legs take quite a pounding throughout the year.

With that said, her primary goal this season is to maintain a clean bill of health.

“Honesty, one of my main goals is just to stay healthy,” Wicks said. “I’ve had a couple injuries in the past, and I like running. I’m not the greatest person out there, but just to try my hardest, and maybe beat some of my own personal records, and then just be a good teammate for the rest of the people on my team, be a mentor for them, so other girls can have as good an experience as I did.”

The injuries Wicks referred to were a pair of stress fractures, one during track season her freshman year and one to her shin this past fall that cut her final cross country season short.  Prior to the latter injury, which prevented Wicks from competing in the conference and sectional meets, she was either the first or second Tiger to cross the finish line in every race.

Wicks will be counted on to lead the long-distance runners, something she said comes naturally to her because of her involvement with cross country.
