The Greene County High School girls’ track and field program has operated at a reasonably high level for some years now, and head coach Kelly Simpson was asked to assess where the girls are heading into the March 30 outdoor opener at Linduska Field in Jefferson for the Greene County Early Bird Meet. “I think we’re where we want to be right now. We have a little flu bug going around, so we need to get that cleared up, but other than that, I think we’re ready to go.”
The Rams were at indoor meets in Ames and Storm Lake last week, and the coach talks about what he saw. “We wanted to just see some kids run some events, get some times, and see where we’re at. and get those state qualifiers from the past into some competitive heats and competitive races so we could see where they’re at and see if they’re ready to get going again. I was pretty pleased with what we saw at those indoor meets.”
The Greene County Coed Early Bird Meet on Monday, March 30 at Linduska Field in Jefferson will mark the season debut outdoors for both Ram teams.
