The ADM girls soccer team gets its first taste of outside competition tonight as the Tigers travel to North Polk for a scrimmage against the Comets. Varsity action begins at 5 p.m. and junior varsity follows at 6:30 p.m.

The scrimmage also represents the first chance for players vying for spots on the varsity team to make a good impression on the coaching staff against someone other than their teammates. The Tigers have quite a few seniors from last year’s squad to replace, in particular on the back line. Starting defender spots and the goalkeeping position are up for grabs, but Tigers head coach Kelsey Dolder is confident she has the talent to fill those voids.

“Obviously, I’m looking for some players to step up and shoe the fills of what the seniors did last year for us – a couple great goal scorers and obviously a fantastic keeper we lost last year,” Dolder said. “But I’m really looking forward to this year. The girls have already stepped up big time with winter workouts and open gyms and they’re really excited to play. I think they’re going to step up and be able to fill those shoes this year.”

Other players to keep an eye on include senior Emily Hofmann and sophomore Sydney Bertman, the top two returning goal scorers from a year ago.
