The Chief Deputy Sheriff was dispatched to a car-deer accident that occurred on 235th Street near Pioneer Avenue. A 2012 Honda CRV being driven by Sandra J Ostendorf 50, of Jefferson was eastbound on 235th Street when a deer ran onto the roadway and was struck by the Ostendorf vehicle. Sandra Ostendorf was not injured but her car did sustain an estimated $7500 in damages.
Wednesday, April 1st
Fire units from Jefferson and Churdan were dispatched to a corn stalk field fire in the 1300 block of 170th Street. A controlled burn from Tuesday rekindled after the high winds blew embers into a nearby stalk field. The fire departments were aided by a farm neighbor with a tractor and field implement.
Fire departments from Jefferson, Scranton and Bagley all responded to a structure fire at 1243 305th street. A small shop building and a larger machine shed and contents were destroyed due to the fire.
A deputy was asked to check the welfare of several residents in the 400 block of Sand Street in Churdan after dispatchers received an abandoned E-911 call that mapped to that location. The residents were found to be safe and well.
A deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 30 near the Raccoon River Bridge west of Jefferson. A 2007 Chrysler van that was being driven by Amy Marie Briol 25, of Carroll, was westbound on 220th when a deer ran onto the roadway and was struck by the Briol van. No injuries were reported but her vehicle sustained an estimated $2500 in damages.
In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
