The Greene County High School Prom is this Saturday.
This year’s theme is “The Roaring 20’s” and all the decorations will be looking back at the 1920’s. Junior Class Advisor Teresa Green says the evening starts with a banquet meal at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson from 5:45-7:15pm. As of last week, Green says they had 194 students sign up for the meal, which will be catered by the Ram Restaurant. The banquet theme is “All That Jazz.”
She talks about why they continue to put on a banquet meal for the students.
“We started doing that years ago and I really like the idea of a banquet, with the kids all getting together and eating together. And I think it’s a safe option for kids that they don’t have to go somewhere out of town and risk being on the road.”
The students will then head to the Greene County Community Center for the grand march from the middle school to the Jefferson Elks Lodge. Green adds that the students will walk beside 1920’s style vehicles on their way to the dance. The dance will then be from 8-11:30pm.
After prom activities will take place at the middle school from 11:30pm to 3am Sunday morning. Activities includes a hypnotist, bowling, inflatables, an obstacle course and other games. Green notes that the the evening will conclude with prize drawings from 2:30-3am.
Greene is very appreciative of the donations and community support that they receive to continue to host a successful high school prom. As a way to say ‘thank you,’ she would like to invite the public to view their decorations at the Elks Lodge, the church and the middle school gym from 3:30-4:30pm.
