Instead of getting a day off when it’s rainy, as was the case on Tuesday, boys on the Greene County High School golf team keep the putting part of the game sharp by playing on the school’s carpeted surfaces. They compete for candy supplied by head coach Dave Destival. The coach says instead of taking the day off, putting indoors does a couple of things for the golfers. “We do set up 18 holes on the carpet in the various rooms at the high school It’s match play and the winners get a piece of candy. It’s the competition, number one. And it’s also working with the putter. You’ve got to control the putter and the carpet they play on is fast, so I think there’s some benefit.”

Weather permitting, the Rams host Perry and Des Moines Christian tomorrow at the Jefferson Municipal Golf Course at 4 p.m.
