Jesus Rodriguez scored in the opening minute and that proved to be enough as Perry defeated Winterset 2-0 in the RRC debut for both teams Tuesday night in Winterset. Rodriguez scored in the opening minute off a terrific pass from Ivan Garcia. The score stayed that way until the 77th minute when foreign exchange student Jaime Diaz found the upper corner of the net from 25 yards out to give Perry a 2-0 lead.
“It was kind of a sloppy game,” added Head Coach Gary Overla. “I think we had three yellow cards and they had a couple but the field was pretty sloppy. We were able to score early and put the clamps on them offensively.”
Perry improves to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in RRC. The Jays travel to Carlisle Thursday night for another conference matchup.
