Two of Perry’s civic organizations are coming together this spring with the goal of showing more patriotism in town.
Lions Club President Dave Wright came up with the idea of increasing the number of American flags displayed in Perry, especially on the holidays. Though the club is supportive of the idea, they expressed concern about the manpower needed to pull off the project. Wright then contacted Optimist Club president Dr. Randy McCaulley, who agreed to partner in the project.
The clubs plan to provide 3 x 5 foot flags for Perry residents and businesses. The morning of Memorial Day, the 4th of July, Flag Day, Labor Day and Veterans Day, the club will place the flags in front of the business or residence for the day, and remove them at sunset.
The cost of placing and removing the flags for the five holidays a year is $25, per flag.
The Lions and Optimists plan to go door-to-door with the campaign, looking for donations to make this possible. The initial goal is to sell 300 flags for the first year and continue to build on that number.
Proceeds from the project will be split between the two organizations and used for other community projects.
