Both ADM soccer teams won their games Monday night, albeit in distinctly different fashions.
The girls squad continued its early-season dominance, beating Des Moines – Abraham Lincoln 6-0, running its scoring margin to 17-0 over its two wins. Sophomore Sydney Bertman pulled a hat trick with three goals, junior Erin Person had two goals and an assist, and freshman Izzy Lafollete added one goal. Senior Emily Hofmann racked up two assists and sophomore Allie Cook had one.
Tigers head coach Kelsey Dolder said both Cook and Hofmann had great games, as they controlled the midfield and created many great offensive attacks. Junior Jessica Craigmile had 12 saves in goal to preserve the shutout. ADM moved to 2-0 on the season.
The boys squad, meanwhile, had to stage a comeback to win its second straight contest. Trailing 1-0 late in the contest, the Tigers (4-2) came up with two goals in an approximately two-minute span to steal a 2-1 win over Boone in Adel.
ADM boys soccer head coach Bill Shields said his team played very poorly in the first half, taking a 1-0 deficit into the intermission. The Tigers finally got on the board with an equalizer by sophomore Matt Dobrzynski in the 71st minute, and took the lead for good on senior Derek Gushiken’s goal in the 73rd minute, coming off a cross from junior Noah Bardwell. It was Gushiken’s team-leading sixth goal, while Bardwell picked up his team-best third assist.
Next up, the ADM boys will play host to Knoxville Thursday night in Adel, while the girls are on the road for the second straight game Friday evening at Norwalk.
