Iowans may be able to purchase fireworks here in the state before this year’s Independence Day.
The Senate Ways and Means subcommittee passed the bill Tuesday with a 2-1 vote. It now heads to the full committee.
District 10 State Senator Jake Chapman of Adel has been working to legalize fireworks in Iowa for the last two sessions and remains optimistic that this could be the year.
“Of course we want Iowans to be able to stay local and buy those fireworks from a local place, certainly that’s important to us.”
If it passes, the bill would go into effect on June 1st. The House Ways and Means Committee also passed a similar bill with a 15-10 vote this session.
