Greene County High School FFA students are hosting their main fundraiser tomorrow.
A plant sale will take place this Friday from 10am to 5pm at the greenhouse, which is located just south of the high school in Jefferson.
They will have a variety of fruits, vegetables and flowers available for purchase. Sophomore Austin Wailes says their advisor Cortney Schmidt bought plant starters for the students to grow them for the fundraiser.
“We’ve been growing them for a month and a half maybe. The horticulture classes have been out there everyday watering, deadheading and making sure that the plants are in good health and everything.”
Vegetables and herbs are $1 each, a four-pack is $2 and hanging baskets range from $10-$20. Wailes talks about what they would like to use the funds from their plant sale to do.
“At the beginning of the school year, next year, we’re going to go to the National FFA Convention. Last year, they took eight people and this year, Ms. Schmidt is looking to take 16. So we’re trying to raise as much money as possible.”
Other events and activities FFA’ers are involved in include the state convention, Ag on the Farm Day at Tim and Vickie Robbins farm and a running a petting farm at Deal’s Orchard.
