The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference track and field meet is today at Saydel High School in Des Moines. The conference is highly regarded as one of the best leagues in Iowa for schools of its size. At the 2014 State Meet, conference schools had 32 individual girls events and 23 girls relays, while boys teams had 26 individual events and 16 relays. Returning are three individual past State champions and a total of 31 State place winning events, so it should be quite a meet.
On the girls’ side, Greene County, Gilbert, PCM (Monroe) and Roland-Story (Story City) might be considered favorites for the team title. The CMB and Gilbert would likely get the nod on the boys’ side with Greene County, R-S, and Saydel possibly having a say about who wins the title.
Ram senior Emily Christensen told Raccoon Valley Radio that winning the conference team title is among the Rams’ goals. “We’re strong overall. We have a lot of depth, and the younger girls keep improving and coming up, and I’m impressed with all of them.”
Starting time at Saydel is 4 p.m. This Thursday, May 14, the Greene County teams travel to Atlantic for a Class 3A State Qualifying Meet.
