A tiny community in south central Guthrie County, Monteith isn’t labeled on most maps. Being an unincorporated community, its population isn’t officially recorded, though most estimates figure it to be about 20. A dedicated band of past and present Monteith residents work hard all year to keep their community alive. Monteith Community Club member Vanessa Branson says they’ve organized an honorary, though unofficial, city council to lead the promotion of the community. “The Monteith Ladies Club or the Monteith Community Club, as they’ve been known for years, kind of inspired some other folks in the community to do some fun things. A lot of us are couples who have some ties to Monteith, some are from surrounding areas, many from Guthrie Center. We get together once a month, we call ourselves the ‘city council’ and we try to promote Monteith. We’ve put up new signs on both sides of Monteith and have just put up decorations for Memorial Day that will take us through the Fourth of July, they’re red, white and blue.”

In addition to decorating for several seasonal holidays, the Monteith Community Club has organized a reunion which will take place on June 14th. We’ll have more information as that date gets closer.
