perry schoolsPerry Elementary School administrators are looking forward to being able to better serve the English Language Learner (ELL) students next year with the addition of two more staff members.

Principal Trevor Miller says with around 280 students identified as ELL, they saw the need for more teachers.

“So we will have one per grade level instead of a couple (for the whole school).  Right now (the ELL teachers) have over a hundred students on their roster, which extremely difficult to get to two different grades and make sure we’re meeting the needs of our students.  So with our diverse population, we’re making sure they’re getting their supports at the beginning and the first time they’re learning English.  That way we can make sure that by the time they leave the elementary, they have the training they need as they go to the middle school and high school.  So it’s great to see the support from the (School) Board and (Superintendent Lynn) Ubben so that we have been allowed two additional ELL teachers.”

We will wrap up our conversation with Miller, and Associate Principal Joel Martin on today’s Let’s Talk Dallas County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours on AM 1310 KDLS.
