Both ADM/Van Meter soccer teams took on Carlisle last night, the boys on the road and the girls at home in Adel, and both teams came away with big victories.


Girls Soccer: W, 7-0 vs. Carlisle

The No. 10 Tigers captured their first back-to-back Raccoon River Conference titles in program history by throttling Carlisle, 7-0, on senior night in Adel. The Wildcats came in just a half-game behind ADM in the standings, but ADM wasted no time showing which team is the conference’s best.

The Tigers (10-4, 6-0 RRC) got two goals a piece from Izzy LaFollete and Emily Hofmann, as well as scores from Sydney Bertman, Sydney Canney and Allie Cook. Bertman also racked up two assists, including on Lafolette’s second goal.

ADM took a commanding 3-0 lead through the first 17 minutes of the game en-route to a five-goal first half, as the rout was on early. Bertman got the scoring started courtesy of an Erin Person assist in the fifth minute, LaFollete notched an unassisted goal in the 16th minute and Canney scored on a Chelsea Bright helper just one minute later.

Hofmann notched both second-half goals, the first set up by Bertman in the 49th minute and the second of the unassisted variety in minute 60.

ADM wraps up the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday night in Huxley at Ballard.


Boys Soccer: W, 6-0 at Carlisle

ADM’s offense struck early and often in the regular season finale at Carlisle, using goals from give different players and three assists by Derek Gushiken. Head coach Bill Shields said his squad spread the ball around well, passed well and used the length of the field.

The No. 8 Tigers (14-4, 6-1 RRC) built a 3-0 halftime lead on goals by Bryce Godwin (3), courtesy of a Gushiken assist, and Davis Barton and Johnny Reel, who both notched their first scores of the season.

Mathew Obberuetter had a hand in all three second-half goals, which came within a 10-minute span. Obbereuetter scored on an assist from Gushiken in both the 55th minute and 65th minutes for his first two scores of the year, sandwiched around an assist on Daniel Finnegan’s goal in the 58th minute.

The No. 1 seed in the Class 2A Substate 8 bracket, ADM has a long layoff until its first playoff game. The Tigers will play the winner of Atlantic and Harlan at home on May 28 following a first-round bye.
