After being rained out of the scheduled baseball opener on Tuesday, Greene County unleashed good hitting, pitching, and defense on Wednesday during a 12-0 victory in five innings by the 10-run rule on the road over Colfax-Mingo. The Rams threw senior Colton Fitzpatrick for two innings and were up 11-0 by that time. Junior Daric Whipple went the final three innings and earned the victory. Fitzpatrick had four strikeouts and four walks, and did not allow a hit. Whipple gave up four hits, one walk, and he fanned four.
Nine Rams had at least one hit with senior Jordan Challen leading the way with three singles in three trips, and he drove in two runs. Senior Alex Rasmussen had a double and two RBI, and senior Jordan Hostetler had three singles and he drove in a run. Tyler Beger had a single and two runs knocked in, with one single and one RBI for Fitzpatrick and senior Riah Nelsen. Junior Reid Lamoureux, Whipple and sophomore Trey Tucker also had base hits, and senior Dylan McConnell had a SAC fly RBI.
Greene County led 2-0 after one inning and put the game away with nine runs in the second. The scoring was completed with a fifth inning run.
The Rams are in Jefferson on KG98 tonight with PCM (Monroe) in make-up action from May 26. Air time is just after 7 p.m. with first pitch set for 7:15 p.m.
