New Food Competition at the Bell Tower Festival
The Jefferson Matters: Main Street (JMMS) promotion committee is looking for participants for a new cooking event during the Bell Tower Festival.
Committee member Ann Frederick says they are hosting a Greene “Bell” Pepper Challenge on Saturday, June 13th inside the Greene County Courthouse. She explains why she came up with the idea to put together a cooking challenge.
“I’ve been a part of the community my whole life. And I always think it’s fun to have something for free and something exciting and anybody could participate in. We’re just calling it the Greene ‘Bell’ Pepper Challenge for the fun and the pepper is the main feature.”
There are four categories which include appetizer, main, novelty and hot and spicy dishes. There are two age divisions for adults and youth for anyone 14 years-old or younger. Each participant can enter up to two dishes total for the contest. Each contestant must bring no more than two servings of every dish they enter.
Two judges will determine who the winners are in each category for their respective age divisions. First place will receive $25, a trophy and a t-shirt and second place will get $15. Registrations will take place from 8:30 to 9:15am and judging will begin at 9:30. Dishes must be complete when registration begins. The winning recipes will be posted on the JMMS facebook page.
Entry forms are available at the Jefferson Public Library, Homestead Coffee and Bakery and the Greene County Chamber office. For more information, contact Frederick at 641-427-5781 or Lynda Cochran at 386-3285.
