Last week, the Iowa State University Vice President of Extension and Outreach visited Greene County.
Cathann Kress met with the County’s Extension Council members and learned about how programs are available through the County’s Extension office and what other programs the County could use through the college.
Kress says there are a few programs that Greene County has taken the lead on which is a life program where younger people teach older people how to stay fit and active through exercise programs with gaming systems. She describes another program that offers relief for caregivers.
“There is some really good programming going on here (in Greene County) that’s intended to help find support for those individuals and make sure that they know of all the resources in the County, that could be helping them so they can find all that information in one place at the Extension office, so they can get some help too.”
One area that the local Extension Council noted that they would like to see improve is more 4-H parent volunteers to help with activities and engage more youth in the program. Kress notes that ISU Extension also provides programming for agriculture and natural resources, human sciences and communities and economic development.
Kress visits with all 100 Extension offices throughout the state every year to make sure that the college is providing all programs possible so that every Iowan feels like they benefit from their organization.
