Entering Monday’s game in Alleman, Greene County had never beaten North Polk in baseball in all the years Mark Sawhill has been head coach (Since 2003). They have now. Sawhill, in season number 13 heading the program, watched his team roll to a 16-0 victory in four innings by the 10-run rule. Senior Riah Nelsen threw his second no-hitter in three starts this season and he improves to 3-0. Nelsen walked a batter with one out in the fourth for the only NP base runner. He fanned six Comets. The Rams are now 7-3 overall and 5-2 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. NP fell to 3-3 in conference play and 3-7 overall.
Greene County scored a run in the first inning, seven in the third, then put it away with eight in the fourth. The Rams had 11 hits with senior Alex Rasmussen hitting his second homer of the season. His three-run shot in the third gave the Rams some breathing room. He also singled and batted in five runs. Senior Jordan Hostetler continues flirting with the .700 mark after he singled, doubled, and knocked in three. Nelsen doubled and single and junior Daric Whipple singled twice and had one RBI. Seniors Jordan Challen and Dylan McConnell each had a base hit and one run batted in and junior Tyler Beger singled.
Greene County hosts Perry tonight in non-conference action around 7:15 p.m. on KDLS 1310 AM.
