The 6-2 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball victory Wednesday night in Des Moines vs. Saydel improved Greene County’s overall record to 12-0 and the Rams improved to 8-0 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Senior Marissa Promes improved her record this season to 11-0 as she allowed two runs, both earned, on only three hits. Promes walked one batter, hit three with pitches, and struck out seven. The Rams played errorless defense while Saydel was charged with three errors.
Eighth grader Jenna Beyers made her first varsity start for senior Emma Saddoris, who missed the game due to illness. Beyers played second base and went two for four with both hits doubles. Senior Emily Christensen also doubled as the Rams totaled 11 hits. Junior Sydney Koch, Christensen, and senior Kayla Mobley each had two hits with junior Carleigh Paup, Promes, and senior Tressa Ramussen each collecting a base hit. Paup, Mobley, Christensen, and Promes each had one hit. The Rams left 11 runners on base to six left on by the Eagles.
The Rams, ranked third in Class 3A, are scheduled to host CMB (Maxwell) tonight in Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on KG98, weather permitting. The Raiders came close to handing Coach Tom Kennedy’s team a loss in the first week of the season. CMB led 2-0 through six innings, but five runs in the seventh carried the Rams to a 5-2 victory on May 29.
