Greene County was held to five hits and didn’t score until the seventh inning in Des Moines on Wednesday night vs. Saydel in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball. The result was a 4-1 victory for Saydel that improved the Eagles to 9-4 overall and 6-2 in the conference. Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams scored one run for the second straight night and fell to 7-5 overall and 5-3 in league play.
Senior Colton Fitzpatrick pitched well, but took the loss. He allowed one earned run in six innings on just four hits. He walked one batter, hit no one, and struck out five. Greene County had four errors and Saydel two.
Junior Tyler Beger singled and had the lone run batted in for the Rams. Junior Daric Whipple singled three times and senior Dylan McConnell added a base hit.
Saydel is on a six game winning streak and they’ve allowed no more than one run in any of the six games.
Greene County stays on the road at Carroll Athletic Field vs. the Carroll Tigers tonight in non-conference play, weather permitting.
