Legislation to legalize fireworks in Iowa failed to make it through the Senate during this year’s session. The issue was one of District 10 State Senator Jake Chapman’s biggest disappointments of the session.
“We got it passed out of the House and we got it passed in all required committees in the Senate but unfortunately (Senate Majority Leader) Mike Gronstal didn’t call it up in the Senate. It will still be eligible for floor debate next year and I’m hopeful that Senator Gronstal will strongly consider and look over the legislation and bring it up for a vote next year.”
However, Chapman says those who live in the rural parts of the state may not be completely out of luck.
“You can get your permit if you live out in the county and not in city limits, through your county supervisors. So be safe and be responsible this 4th of July.”
The Dallas County Board of Supervisors will consider nine fireworks permit applications during today’s meeting, as part of the consent agenda.
