The Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in regular session.
During the open forum, Bob Ausberger with the Lincoln Highway Interpretive Site near Grand Junction, gave an update on the sign design. He said one of the heads of the committee, Jeff Benson with the Iowa Department of Transportation has died. Ausberger was also looking into having more community people be a part of the committee and named eight potential people. The goal is to establish welcome signs at the site to attract people to visit it off of US Highway 30.
Resident Shane Olson requested from the Board to look into the possibility of establishing signs to prevent semi-trucks from using Jake Brakes due to the loud noises that they produce. The Supervisors took no action on the topic.
Peg Raney and John Michael Sawhill with Jefferson Matters: Main Street asked the Board about using the courthouse square and the lawn area for a vendor/garage sale event. It is tentatively planned for July 11th from 8:30am to noon and vendors will be allowed to set up for free to sale their items. The Supervisors gave permission to use the courthouse square for the special event.
The Board then approved a fireworks permit for Joani Groves.
The Board reviewed its 2016 fiscal year insurance package with MacDonald Insurance. The property, liability and auto physical damage rate will have a net increase of 3.68 percent and workers compensation will decrease 23.38 percent after a reduction in the street and roads rate with an additional good experience bonus of ten percent. The Board approved to renew its insurance policy.
