Wet weather forced athletic administrators into another round of baseball and softball postponements Monday. Greene County was to have played JV/varsity softball vs. PCM in Monroe and JV/varsity baseball vs. PCM in Prairie City, but due to field conditions those games were not held. The JV/varsity softball is now scheduled for Monroe on Friday, June 19 while the baseball in Prairie City has been rescheduled for Friday, July 3, which is a holiday for many due to Independence Day being on a Saturday.
Greene County may actually be in a better position than some because prior to last week the Rams were caught up in baseball and had just one game to make up in softball. Season opening baseball and softball games vs. PCM in Jefferson were postponed on May 26, but were made up just two days later on May 28.
The Rams were rained out of baseball on June 11 vs. Carroll and since that was non-conference action, it won’t be made up. The Rams were to have played Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball on June 12 vs. Roland-Story in Story City, but the field there was too wet to play on. As a result, R-S and the Rams will play a JV game at 3:15 p.m. followed by two varsity contests with game on starting at 5:15 p.m. in Jefferson on July 1. .
In softball, Gilbert was to have played in Jefferson, but that was moved to a doubleheader in Gilbert on June 30 at 5:30 p.m. because of other Gilbert activities and not because of the weather. The Rams did lose a home game to rain on June 11 vs. CMB, which is now scheduled to be made up in Jefferson on Friday, July 3, which is a holiday for many.
The farther the season goes, the fewer make up dates school officials have to choose from for getting games made up.
The Rams are scheduled for non-conference softball in Adel tonight vs. Class 4A number 5 ADM. Greene County is ranked third in Class 3A.
in baseball, the Rams have non-conference action scheduled for Allensworth Field in Jefferson vs. Southeast Valley (Gowrie) with JV at 5:15 p.m. and the varsity around 7:15 p.m.
