Their hitting having finally come around the past two days following a prolonged slump, the ADM baseball Tigers absorbed a rare letdown from their pitching staff Friday night at Carlisle, as the Wildcats came back from one run down in the bottom of the seventh on back-to-back bases loaded walks to upend ADM, 8-7.
The wild, back-and-forth contest featured three lead changes, the last proving to be fatal for the Tigers. Down to its final out, Carlisle mounted the game-winning rally off Logan Lemke, who took the loss. Lemke (0-2) issued back-to-back walks to Max McClay and Alex Iverson and was pulled. Mason Henrichs followed with a single off Jake Sloss to load the bases, and Sloss walked the next two hitters to force home the tying and winning runs.
Lemke’s control issues overshadowed his stellar day at the plate, where he went 5-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Chase Eddie continued his hot hitting, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Calisle (9-5, 4-2 RRC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two runs in each of the first two innings off senior starter Sam Kornstad, who struggled. The lefty lasted four innings, surrendering six runs, all earned, on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Kornstad served up two, two-run home runs, one by Jordan Pierce in the first and the other by Peyton Stephens in the fourth.
The Tigers (7-10, 2-6 RRC) stormed back with a five-run fourth inning to take a brief one-run lead, as ADM sent nine men to the plate, keyed by run-scoring hits from Eddie and Lemke. The Wildcats then jumped back out in front by one on Stephens’ two-run shot.
ADM tied the game at 6 in the sixth on Colin Gavin’s bases-loaded walk and took a 7-6 lead the following inning on a Lemke RBI single to left.
The Tigers will take the weekend off before getting back on the bus for another conference road trip, this time to the west looking for a season sweep of Carroll. We’ll have the call on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com, with pregame coverage at approximately 7:15 and first pitch to follow around 7:30.
