Greene County residents will have a couple of opportunities to take free swimming lessons this summer at the Jefferson Municipal Pool.

Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner says Farmer’s Mutual Insurance is sponsoring free lessons next week from June 22nd through the 26th from 10 to 11am.  Home State Bank will also sponsor a week of free lessons from July 6th through the 10th from 10 to 11am.  Both sessions will focus on swimmers from levels one through five.  The levels range from level one swabbies, where people just get comfortable being in a pool to captains at level five, which are those individuals who can perform several strokes while being introduced to flip turns and diving.

Lautner states that they used to offer swimming lessons with the Red Cross, which they would get charged for the lessons, but having businesses sponsor them for free is a great thing.

“Well I think the patrons ought to feel real lucky about that.  I think if we get 100 kids that are taking free swimming lessons and we save one life from those free swimming lessons, it’s well worth it.”

Both sessions are limited to the first 50 registrations.
