The Greene County baseball team hosts CMB (Maxwell) tonight at Allensworth Field in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play on KG98. Air time is around 7 p.m. with the first pitch at approximately 7:15 p.m. The Rams are coming off a non-conference 10-6 loss vs. Bondurant-Farrar in Bondurant on Thursday night to drop to 8-7 overall. Greene County had just one hit, a Jordan Hostetler single, and he drove in a run. Riah Nelsen, Reid Lamoureux, and Dylan McConnell had one RBI apiece.
McConnell took the pitching loss after going the first 2-1/3. He gave up eight runs, three earned, on seven hits and two walks, while hitting two batters with pitchers. Tyler Beger went the last 3-1/3 and allowed two runs, both earned on three hits and a walk. Beger had one strikeout.
B-F led 1-0 after two, but the Rams scored twice in the top of the third for a brief 2-1 lead before seven runs in the bottom of the frame put the Blue Jays up for good. The Rams made it 8-6 with four runs in the fifth, and B-F ended the scoring with two runs in the sixth. The Blue Jays improved to 6-9 overall.
Senior pitcher Riah Nelsen is scheduled to take the mound and he has been nearly untouchable in his first three starts this season. He’s 3-0 with a 0.00 earned run average in 15-1/3 innings. Nelsen has allowed no runs on just two hits. He’s walked only three batters while striking out 26, and the opposition is batting a paltry .037 against the strong right hander.
