Scranton Community CenterThe Scranton all-school reunion is happening this weekend at the newly renovated community center in Scranton.

Once every five years, a reunion is planned for former graduates of Scranton High School to get together to have fun and enjoy each other’s company.

Al Robson with the alumni committee says one of their oldest members is from the Class of 1936.  Other graduates that are invited include previous winners of the Fern Olive Scholarship.

The weekend starts on Friday evening with the Scranton Fire Department hosting the beverage garden on the south side of the building at 7pm with karaoke with Cedar Creek Tunes from Churdan.  Saturday starts with a continental breakfast, served by the Greene County 4-H and FFA horse club at 8am in the cafeteria.  A bus tour leaves the community center at 9am.  Robson notes that there is still spaces available for the free tour, just show up before the bus leaves.  There are 33 stops that go all over Greene County.  The tour will arrive back to the community center around noon.  Then from noon to 3pm, the community center will be open for all those who would like to see the renovations.

At 3pm, banquet registrations will begin.  Robson points out that as of Wednesday, there were 450 people that pre-registered for the meal that will be catered at Lidderdale Country Store.  It will be served in the newly air-conditioned gym and it starts at 5pm.  Those that didn’t pre-register for the meal, must pay $18 at the door.  Also at 3pm, the beverage garden will be back open.  The evening’s entertainment will be a live band from Des Moines, Trips, which Robson says a former Scranton graduate Jay Juergens, class of 1979, is one of the band members.  They are slated to play from 8 to 11pm.

The committee will also have bricks and plaques available for purchase at the banquet of the old three-story school building.

Robson adds that the City street west of the community center will be blocked off for handicapped parking only.  Any graduate from 1953 and earlier are allowed to register in the gym lobby and all other registrations will be in the community room on the east side of the community center.
