A new musical organization in Guthrie Center continues to grow. Last month, the Western Iowa Folk Alliance held their first ever jam session. About a dozen local musicians showed up to play acoustic music. Main Street Guthrie Center Director Julie Bailey, one of the major sponsors of the event, says that she was impressed with the first outing and hopes the group continues to grow. “I thought it was a wonderful first-time event. The musicians were quite appreciative of having the opportunity to get together and play. There were some people that came as audience members and spectators and we appreciated that and we hope that grows. Word of mouth advertising is great.”

The second gathering of the Western Iowa Folk Alliance will take place Tuesday night at 6:30 at the Guthrie Center Activity Center.

After getting drenched with rain for weeks, the trails at Whiterock Conservancy have finally dried out enough that they have been re-opened to the public. Additionally, they have just opened brand new trails for horseback riding. Director of Communications Barbra Jotzke-Torrier reminds users to stay on trails designed for their mode of transportation, whether that be horseback, bicycle or pedestrian.
