The ADM baseball team broke out of a season-long hitting slump in Thursday’s 11-1 win over Ballard via run rule, then followed that up with another good showing at Carlisle on Friday. The Tigers wound up losing in heartbreaking fashion to the Wildcats, 8-7, but the back-to-back nights of good offense is a welcome sight for an ADM lineup that has struggled to produce consistently.
Prior to ADM’s win over Ballard, the Tigers had scored just one run in each of their past three games. Even with those two big games, ADM is is averaging just 3.8 runs per game and ranks at or near the bottom of the conference in every offensive category. Head coach Jason Book can only hope the recent momentum continues tonight at Carroll, when the Tigers go for a season-sweep of the conference’s other Tigers.
One player Book hasn’t had to worry about in terms of offensive production is senior Chase Eddie, who missed large chunks of the past two seasons due to injury. Book said in the preseason he was excited to get Eddie back on the mound, where he’s compiled a 2.86 ERA in 22 innings this season.
But Eddie has also been ADM’s best hitter and a dependable producer all season, hitting .347 with four doubles, both of ADM’s home runs and 10 RBIs.
“Chase has been a great surprise offensive. He is a kid who we knew could hit, but I honestly didn’t expect him to be as good as he is right now,” Book said. “He had it in him, I just didn’t see it coming, I guess.
“I’m really proud of the way he’s battled through at-bats, and he’s just been really consistent. You know what you’re going to get from him every time he steps up to the plate, and that’s been a relief for us.”
ADM beat Carroll 5-4 in its home opener back on June 1. We’ll have all the action for tonight’s game from Carroll on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com, with pregame coverage beginning at approximately 7:15 and first pitch to follow around 7:30.
