The Greene County JV and varsity softball and baseball teams travel north to Jewell vs. South Hamilton tonight. The softball and baseball diamonds are separated only by a press box and a small bit of grass, so fans need to be wary of foul balls, not only from the game they’re watching, but from the one they are not.

Greene County is 16-4 in softball and ranked fourth in Class 3A, but more importantly, Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams are 10-0 and up in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference standings by three games. SH is in the conference’s lower division, but lost just 4-1 in the first meeting in Jefferson.

On the baseball side, the Rams are 7-3 in the league and two games behind HOIAC leader Gilbert, which the Rams see on Friday of this week. Coach Mark Sawhill’s team is 9-7 overall and is very much in the thick of the conference race. Five teams are within three games of the lead with Saydel (Des Moines) and the Rams two games behind the Tigers in the loss column in a virtual tie for second place. Roland-Story (Story City) and North Polk (Alleman) each have four league losses.

KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com will be keeping tabs on both varsity games in Jewell tonight with play-by-play of softball at 7:30 p.m. and regular updates on the baseball.
