Carlisle left hander Trystan Durham was near perfect Monday night as the youngster put a huge dent in Perry’s hopes of repeating as Raccoon River Conference champions tossing a no-hitter in Carlisle’s 4-0 victory. Durham faced the minimum 21 batters through seven innings after allowing only one baserunner when he walked Will Whiton in the 4th inning. However, Whiton was thrown out trying to steal second base. Durham dominated all night long as he finished with a season high 12 strikeouts. Durham needed only 78 pitches and delivered 16 first pitch strikes to the 21 batters he faced.
Whiton was solid as well in the start as he allowed only 3 hits in 6 innings. He surrendered 3 earned runs with 7 strikeouts. The problem was all three hits were solo homeruns. Jordan Pierce and Max McCay hit solo shots in the first inning and Alec Iversen added a solo blast in the 6th. The Cats took advantage of 2 errors and 2 walks in the second to score an unearned run.
Carlisle improves to 8-2 in RRC play while Perry falls to 5-4. The Bluejays return home Wednesday for a matchup with Bondurant Farrar.
