Last week, the Guthrie County Sheriff’s office took over law enforcement in the City of Guthrie Center. As part of that agreement, the Guthrie Center Police Department was dissolved and Chief Rod Pavelka became a county deputy. Sheriff Marty Arganbright says that in working together with Pavelka for several years, he knows he’s a good officer and is glad to have him on board. “He does a good job. He knows his stuff as far as policing goes, he won’t take a lot of training to get up to speed. He’s just never been a deputy, so that will be the training. Getting to know the County and some of the things we do differently than police departments.”

The Sheriff’s office is able to hire one more deputy as part of the newly enacted 28E agreement, something Arganbright hopes to accomplish before long.
