The end of the 2015 season for the ADM Tigers with a 7-0 loss to Harlan last Monday in the Class 3A district playoff opener also signified the start of massive roster turnover, as 12 seniors played their final games in a Tiger uniform.

Gone is the entire starting outfield (Colin Gavin, Jake Sloss and Logan Lemke), the starting catcher (Elijah McCartney), all but 2 1/3 of the 214 innings thrown by Tiger pitchers this season and both corner infield positions (varying combinations of Zach Ostendorf, Sam Kornstad and Joe Sloss.

Rising junior Sam McCartney is likely to assume the starting catcher’s role in place of his older brother, as Sam caught in relief of Elijah on several occasions. Jack O’Brien and Dalton Hews are entrenched at the middle infield spots, though Hews’ versatility with the glove means he could play third at times, as he did this past season after getting called up on June 19.

Other than that, next year’s starting spots are up for grabs.

“It’ll be a process and it’ll take a little while for everything to shake out,” Tigers head coach Jason Book said of figuring next year’s starting lineup. “We’ve got some juniors that can throw it pretty good that just didn’t get the opportunity at the varsity level that we would have liked. There’s also a few more sophomores from this year’s team that are pretty good players as well, and there’s a really good crop of freshmen coming that will be moving up to sophomores next year.

“So there’s talent coming, we’ll just have to work on gaining experience and doing that by doing playing in as many games as we can.”

ADM finished the season 10-22 and tied for last place in the Raccoon River Conference, with a 3-11 mark in conference play.
