901 West Washington updateHeart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity is close to finishing one of its major projects in Greene County for the year.

Associate Director Jeff Lamoureux says only minor work is left at the rehabilitation house at 901 West Washington in Jefferson.  The non-profit organization held a home dedication ceremony for the volunteers and the qualifying family on Sunday.

Lamoureux states that while they were working on the rehab house, they were also able to complete two Helping Hand projects around the County.  Volunteers helped to repair the roof and paint a house in Grand Junction and repair the roof on another home in Jefferson.  Helping Hands is a program in which volunteers repair the exterior of homes.

Lamoureux describes one final project left for them to do this year.

“Going forward, we have another Helping Hands project identified.  We’re working with John Deere out of Paton on that.  They’re going to provide a week’s worth (of) volunteers to do a project here in Jefferson.”

It is slated to begin July 27th.

Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity is always always looking for projects for Helping Hands, renovate or build homes from scratch.  Lamoureux says the individual must go through an application process before a project can start.  Call the main office in Jefferson at 386-3093 or stop by at 114 South Chestnut Street to learn more.
