We’re now just two weeks away from the special bond referendum election in Dallas County.
The county-wide election asks voters to approve a $16.8 million general obligation bond to design, construct, erect, equip and furnish a new law enforcement center.
The proposed facility is said to be designed to meet the County’s 25 year facility plan, with the ability to expand on-site.
It’s a 62,000 square foot building with around 18,000 square feet being used for housing inmates in the jail, another 17,000 square feet for jail administration and support, 7,400 square feet for the patrol and investigation portions of the sheriff’s office and 4,600 square feet for administrative space.
According to the County, the proposed location of the new facility is on the eastern edge of the Adel City limits on land currently owned by the County. It’s a relatively flat property, complete with sewer lagoons on the north side and utilities on the southeast corner.
“The location permits ease of access to all parts of the county in times of emergency” according to DallasCountyBond.com.
The County also hopes the new law enforcement center will spur economic development in east Adel.
Absentee ballots are now available from the County Auditor’s office and must be requested by mail before the end of business on July 31st and sent back by Monday, August 3rd.
Polls will be open from 7am until 8pm on Tuesday, August 4th.
