ADM baseball suffered its first losing season in several years with a 10-22 record in 2015 primarily because the Tigers couldn’t sync different parts of their game at the same time.
Tigers head coach Jason Book said he was nonetheless proud of the effort his group displayed all year, affirming the sentiment that ADM was better than its record indicated.
“Day in, day out, the effort was there all the time,” Book said. ” If we can emulate that and maybe even make it a little bit better, we’ll be in a pretty good place. Some of the other things, early in the season we pitched it pretty well, so we have to emulate that. Mid-season we hit pretty well, so we’ll try to take little bits and pieces of that puzzle and make our own new puzzle and put something together.”
ADM started the year well, shooting out of the gate 3-1 before suffering a four-game losing streak. Then came a 4-4 stretch that was followed by a season-worst nine-game losing streak.
The Tigers finished with a team ERA of 3.66, with that figuring having been as low as 3.0 and at times, over 4. And as Book alluded to, ADM did show spurts of good offense, such as toward the end of the season during a 3-2 stretch during which ADM scored nearly six runs per game.
But a lack of offense was the Tigers primary downfall this past season, as ADM finished at or near the bottom of the Raccoon River Conference in every major offensive category, averaging 3.3 runs per game.
