A Jefferson man was recently sentenced on a domestic abuse charge from a January incident.
According to court documents, 39 year-old Russell Lee Gardner was sentenced to 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to a simple misdemeanor for domestic abuse. All but two days of the prison sentence were suspended.
The charge stems from an incident on January 27th when officers were called to a home of suspected domestic abuse in the 400 block of Russell Street. Officers found the victim had a cut on the inside of her swollen lip. Russell was originally charged with a felony for his third domestic abuse offense, but during the plea agreement, the charge was changed to a misdemeanor.
He was also ordered to pay court costs and attorney fees and ordered to one year of unsupervised probation. He must also complete a Domestic Abuse Intervention Services Program.
