The storied careers of Greene County High School’s seven softball seniors end today at the State Softball Tournament north of Ft. Dodge at Rogers Sports Complex. Greene County, ranked fourth, meets number eight Center Point-Urbana in the third place game at 11:30 this morning after both dropped semifinal contests to higher ranked teams by similar scores in Thursday’s semifinals. Greene County beat the Stormin’ Pointers 2-0 in the 2014 quarterfinals.

The Rams fell 8-1 to second ranked Benton Community (Van Horne) while the Stormin’ Pointers lost 7-1 to number one rated Solon. Greene County is the only team in the top four in 3A that isn’t a member of the WAMAC Conference. A win by the Rams would prevent a first, second, third place sweep by that conference’s members schools. Mount Vernon, also a WAMAC member, finished in fifth place after losing to Benton in the quarterfinals.

Greene County head coach Tom Kennedy called his seniors “irreplaceable” and “the most accomplished class in program history,” and who can argue. Some of these seniors have been varsity Rams for five years and their teams have gone a combined 135-44 over that time including back-to-back State Tournament appearances. Ram seniors are Emily Christensen, Bailey Godwin, Kayla Mobley, Hannah Onken, Marissa Promes, Tressa Rasmussen, and Emma Saddoris.

Air time is at 11 a.m. on KG98 and the game will also be streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
