As the heat of summer continues, there are some simple things we can to to help prevent heat stress on our bodies.
Perry Fire Chief Chris Hinds says if you’re not used to being outdoors it’s important to watch yourself and your symptoms.
“Somebody that’s not used to the heat, that’s not used to being out in the hot temperatures, they’re going to react much different than someone that’s, say a construction worker, that’s outside working in it everyday. It’s very important to monitor yourself and make sure you drink plenty of liquids. They recommend at least one pint of water or some type of sports drink every hour.”
Hinds reminds us that drinking soda or alcoholic beverages does not help when it comes to staying hydrated as the chemicals in them actually takes away from the benefits of drinking liquids.
